In this book, I found, other sections like rock climbing technique, ice climbing, how to spot crevasses, winter weather, avalanches etc are presented with more in-depth analysis and more comprehensive explanation. It also covers ski mountaineering skills as well as essential trekking and climbing skills. This is probably the most detailed and complete guidebook available, while Peter Hill’s version is more like an introduction book. I would recommend this book not only to beginners, but also to advanced climbers.” Amazon Reviewer 5/5- “This is possibly the best mountaineering book out there. The author shows that he has an excellent subject knowledge and the quotes add humour to the book. I think that you need to have a small amount of knowledge yourself before reading this book and is probably not aimed at a first timer , but a semi experienced person wanting to improve. Excellent buy it now.” Amazon Reviewer
5/5 “One of the more comprehensive guides to climbing – not just for instructors but perfect for both apprentice climbers and the more experienced. Alun Richardson comes across as a true enthusiast/fanatic.” Amazon Reviewer
5/5 Alpine Climbing “Easy to read, not condescending to the reader, basic but good tips, interesting photographs, overall fits so well into both my back pocket, and smallest pocket on rucksack” Amazon Reviewer
5/5 Rock climbing “This is a fantastic reference guide when out on a climb andyou fancy trying new things! The book covers almost everything you can imagine including things like knots, belaying, protection types/placement, anchoring… The list really does go on for a while. Lots of pictures for reference and things are clearly described”. I think this book will benifit those ‘fairly’ new to climbing, and in particular, those getting into outdoor climbing. A good buy!
